Darby Doo of Devonshire
Wednesday evening Ananda and I had the great privilege of photographing Miss Darby Doo of Devonshire, a purebred black Labrador Retriever who is in need of a new forever home. Miss Darby, a vivacious and oh-so photogenic six-year-old, is currently being fostered in San Jose, CA and is available for adoption through Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue (GGLRR). Her foster parents, James and Kathy, are doing a wonderful job of caring for Darby as she awaits her new family. James has this to say about Darby (edited ever-so-slightly):
Darby Doo Of Devonshire responds equally to “Girly”, “Treat”, “Go” and “Walk”. Very clever; very smart. Energetic but never hyper. A wonderful, engaging girl but she can’t hold her licker. Walks on slack leash very well. Will sit at corners, with occasional nudge. Currently a plus-sized gal, but losing those extra pounds through exercise and diet. Due for spay once she slims a bit. Wonderful conformation and beautiful deep black coat. Darby rides in vehicles extremely well, crates, and is not flatulent. Does not snore any louder than her foster dad
Darby will trade ten sloppy kisses for only one belly rub. She knows most of the standard commands. Knows “out”. She’s learning “fetch”. Mouth so soft her favorite toy is a small stuffed lion. Likes to be intelligently engaged. Will try to out-think you if she can. She’s spent time around kids and is friendly with other dogs. Will not chase squirrels, cats or raccoons upon gentle restraint.
Darby needs to be with people who can appreciate her clever personality and who like to play gentile games. Adoptive family must lay in an adequate supply of canned carrots. She likes them in her food. We’ll supply the stuffed lion.
We had such an enjoyable time photographing Darby — she’s definitely one of the most photogenic and patient dogs I’ve had the pleasure of capturing on digital media. For more images from Darby’s photo shoot, check out her slide show or visit her album on Picasa Web.
