Portrait of Dino

This is a continuation of yesterday’s post which featured Dino, a Hearing Dog, who sat for me this past Monday.  Of all the shots, this one is my favorite.  What started out as a nice but fairly standard shot took on an artistic flair after applying some Kubota actions in CS5.  The actions used (listed below) are from the Kubota Viva La Vintage + Pow Wow! Combo Pak.  Briefly, here is the sequence of post-processing used in Photoshop CS5:

  1. Tone Master (for overall tonal improvement)
  2. Blacktify (to remove color fringing on Dino’s ears)
  3. Image Grunge Darker 2 (to add texture to the background
  4. HDArrgh (to add clarity and dimension)

Lastly, I added a surface blur (CS5 filter) to the entire image to soften the background and Dino’s fur a tad.

Shot conditions:  Canon EOS 5D, EF 50 mm f/1.8 Mk II, 1/160, f/8.0, 50 mm, ISO 100. Black seamless paper background with two light set-up: Key light from 430EX II set at 1/2 power inside a softbox umbrella, left of camera @ 45 degrees. Back light from Promaster FTD M7000 set at 1/64 power inside a softbox umbrella, behind and to the right of Dino.
